Pelvic ring injuries in children. Part II: Treatment and results. A review of the literature.

چکیده
Emergency treatment in the pediatric trauma patient with a pelvic fracture is orientated to the concepts established in adults (59). The main parameters in decision making are the hemodynamic situation and the grade of instability of the pelvis (36). It has to be considered that the child has a longer hemodynamic compensation before a severe shock state results in a potential near fatal situation. Hauschild et al. found that in children emergency measures were taken in 17.9% compared to a rate of 11.1% in adults patients (19). Due to the anatomical differences of the child’s pelvis and the higher risk of injury to the pelvic viscera, it has to be considered that the presence of pelvic and extremity fractures predicts concomitant abdominal and head injuries (5, 6, 50, 61) and therefore the overall risk of bleeding complications (5, 23, 30, 58, 61). Bleeding is commonly secondary to associated solid-organ injuries (6, 15, 23, 41, 43, 50, 58).

The functional outcome of surgically treated unstable pelvic ring fractures by open reduction, internal fixation
Abstract Background: Unstable Pelvic fracture, a result of high energy antero-posterior compression injury, has been managed based on internal fixation and open reduction. The mode of fixation in Unstable Pelvic fracture has, however, been a subject of controversy and some authors have proposed a need to address the issue of partial breach of the pelvic ring elements in these injuries. This st...
متن کاملClinical Results of Percutaneous Fixation of Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures: A Minimally Invasive Internal Fixation Technique
Background: The pelvic ring fractures (PRF) and acetabular fractures (AF) are among the major orthopedic injuriesassociated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Open surgical stabilization is the standard treatment for themajority of these complications. Percutaneous minimally invasive surgical stabilization of the fractures has become anaccepted treatment method for th...
متن کاملPelvic ring injuries in children. Part I: Epidemiology and primary evaluation. A review of the literature.
Pediatric pelvic injury is of major significance despite these injuries in children are rare with a suspected yearly rate of 3% of all pelvic injuries. The special pediatric bone anatomy of the pelvis is responsible for different fracture patterns, and overall, a bony or joint injury of the pelvis is an indicator of a severe trauma. The vast majority of pediatric pelvic fractures is the result ...
متن کاملEndometriosis Presenting as Recurrent Haemorrhagic Ascites: A Case Report and Literature Review
Endometriosis is a common condition that occurs in 6-10% of all reproductive age women. This number increases to approximately 40% in women with infertility and nearly 75% in women with complaints of chronic pelvic pain. Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity. The most common complaints associated with endometriosis are dysmeno...
متن کاملHistory of pelvic fracture management: a review
High-energy pelvic fractures represent potentially life-threatening injuries due to the risk of acute exsanguinating retroperitoneal hemorrhage. The first report of a severe pelvic ring disruption dates back to Charles Hewitt Moore's seminal publication from 1851. Significant advantages in the understanding of injury mechanisms and treatment concepts of pelvic ring injuries evolved in the 20(th...
